Psychotic Disorders: Current Concepts and Therapeutics

Our traditional ways of diagnosing and classifying brain and behavior disorders do not fully capture their complexities. There are many differences among people who receive the same diagnosis and most symptoms found in a disorder such as schizophrenia are also found in other disorders. Dr. Carpenter, a leading researcher, world authority on schizophrenia, and chair of the Psychosis Work Group for DSM-5 will explain how a "disease" differs from a "clinical syndrome." He will discuss how the parsing of the category "schizophrenia" in terms of its clinical manifestations is key to advancing understanding of causes and the discovery of new therapies.
