Temporary internet service

    Hello,

We will be renovating our building and are looking for a temporary office space but all require that we bring our own internet connection. Has anyone done this is the past (set up a temporary internet service) and could provide some advice? I have spoken with my current service providers but wanted to see if there are other options. Someone suggested industry level MiFi.

We are planning to utilize laptops and won't have any hardwired devices (maybe one printer). No more than 12-15 people working at the same time. Thanks!

    Zane,

If you haven't already, take a look at Mobile Beacon, either directly or through TechSoup. They use Sprint LTE for their service. Devices range from $60-$200 and each device comes with $10/month unlimited LTE through Sprint.

2-3 hotspots would be enough for you, so you'd be looking at one-time cost of $120-$600 for the hotspots and monthly of $20-$30. No setup fees, no wires to run. Speeds are listed at "between 6 – 8 Megabits per second (Mbps), with peak speeds of 25 Mbps on Sprint 4G LTE and over 100 Mbps on Sprint LTE Plus."

For printing either set up Google Cloud Print or just make sure staff know they need to be on the same hotspot as the printer if they need to print.

Hope that helps. Any other questions, happy to help.

Has anyone used Mobile Beacon to set up failover internet connections recently?  I found some posts about it, but they all reference a USB version of the hotspots, which I don't see in the current offerings.  We'd love to connect MB to our router/switch so that it replaces the ISP when Comcast goes down without requiring folks to connect to a different SSID.

We use Mobile Beacon's Netgear router for backup internet at a remote office. They don't sell that router anymore but it works fine. SIP/VOIP doesn't work well over it but it's a good fallback solution at a great price.

Hopefully the MB folks bring back a router offering.
