E-Tapestry Email Communication - Spam Avoidance

    Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has used E-Tapestry to Mass Email their constituents and can help with some advice from direct experience?
It's worthwhile to note I have little-to-no experience in composing e-newsletters/mass-emailing.

I'm sending email blasts through E-Tapestry with information on our Giving Tuesday campaign with encouragement for people to save the date and donate on November 28th through our external Giving Tuesday page powered by GiveGab. I began with one of E-Tapestry's pre-made templates for e-newsletters, and after inserting content/copy, switched to their "Advanced Editor" mode trying to change as little code as possible to get the newsletter to look how we wanted. I've sent an initial email to a queried list of about 1300 people, but am worried that it is/will be going to spam for many.

I'm sending out our second of four emails shortly. In testing the email blast with co-workers' emails and my own work email, the message has come through in our Junk folders (Outlook). In my personal Gmail account, it comes through directly to my inbox but in the "promotions" tab.

I just wanted to put some feelers out and see if anyone has experienced this sort of issue before and has any advice about how they worked with/overcame it. Thank you all!

There are a number of triggers than can get your email snagged by a spam filter. Here's a good blog post about some of the issues involved and some tools you can use to test your emails: Spam-Proof Your %**!!#% Email by Judy Olbrych. If anyone in the group had used these tools I hope they will add their experience.

We had a similar issue in the spring with our e-blasts going into junk folders on our work accounts. It had to do with our own spam settings and we did not see any issues with it going out to our email list (we send emails to staff separately even if it's the same content for reporting purposes). The chat feature through BlackBaud was very helpful to getting the correct info to our IT team to get it worked out. After a few hits and misses, they were finally able to get it straightened out and we haven't had an issue since. I recommend reaching out directly to eTaptestry/Blackbaud for help!

As for the Gmail thing... technically, your email is a promotion, and I'm not sure there is a way to avoid that since you can't fiddle with Gmail's settings. It may be worth asking Blackbaud about that as well.

Thank you both for your information and advice! I may have been worrying a bit much, since we tested it out more on a variety of different email servers and it hasn't run into the issue. But thanks again.
