Any recommendations out there for digital annual report platforms?
I know some people are doing some that are more website like. I kind of like the look of Blue Toad. But certainly open for suggestions.

Thanks for posting this question! I would be interested in hearing any suggestions as well. We have used Flipsnack in the past but that's just a flip verson of a .pdf. Would like to learn about new options!

Good morning! This is a great question/thread. Thanks for posting it.

My department does not produce an annual report per se. Our philanthropy site, however, incorporates donor profiles as well as an annually updated donor list.

Our health system includes four hospitals, so the site is divided accordingly, with each hospital's having its separate donor roll and donor stories (in addition to other philanthropy pages - events, how to give, what we fund, etc., etc.

Link to one of the donor lists:

Link to one of the 'Impact'  (donor stories) landing pages:

I am eager to learn from others' comments here, as we are building an annual impact report for endowed funds, and it would be fantastic to leverage the digital options.

    Have a great day, all.

    Hi Alicia,

I think the first thing you need to determine is how you plan to distribute your annual report. If you plan to only deliver it in a digital format, the website route would be an option. However, if you wish to print any copies for distribution, you will likely start with a more traditional print format and use one of several programs to create the online "flip" version. Which program you use will depend on your technical requirements and desired functionality.

Adobe - If you have Adobe Creative Suite, they do provide an option for online publishing through InDesign. Please note, this will result in your publication residing on Adobe's servers.

3D Issue - We have found this to be one of the best programs out there for creating flipbooks. When creating your flipbook, 3D Issue will auto-detect email addresses and websites allowing you to make them interactive links within your flipbook. What really makes 3D Issue unique is the ability to embed videos directly in your flipbook allowing you to share your story and other supporting information. Also, 3D Issue allows you to self-host your publication so it can be hosted on your own web server and domain.

Both of these options are mobile friendly and work well on any device.

The examples that I provided above are all publications that we designed. The annual eReport for Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike, a nonprofit for youth in Hawai'i, is an international award-winning publication. We're always happy to help organizations design engaging publications for both print and web. Please let me know if you have any questions-I'm happy to answer them.

    Thank you!

I am about to work on ours but take a look at some of my older post. We had a discussion on this before. Here is one of the most recent annual reports that caught my eye from a local college that I thought was very interesting made in Adobe Spark

    Hey Lamont,

Any chance you could provide a link to that previous conversation.

We did not use a platform or try and replicate a print version, but make it more like a website: 2018 Annual Report : Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy

Instantmagazine is the good option to create digital annual reports. You can build interactive reports on any device or platform.
Instant magazine enables responsive design without the need for a developer or designer to creating mobile friendly annual reports.

If you email a PDF, even with password protection, there's no way to track who's opened it.But with the help of Instant Magazine, you can gate your annual report to get exact information on everyone who views it. Their Facebook and LinkedIn integrations automatically enriches your CRM with valuable data. So, with these features, it is easy to build such annual reports.

There are many personalisation features available in it. Moreover, we can also add interactive visuals in them.It has the feature of editing live applications effectively.
You can also connect your annual report to Google Analytics to measure reading time, scroll depth, video plays and social sharing.

Flippingbook is also a good option to create the digital annual reports. It takes your pdf annual report, convert it to an online application, thus giving back a link. And that link can be shared with emails, website, etc.

It has the feature of adding videos to the reports and we can edit the links that is, we can add or remove the links anywhere in the page.It gives more professional look.
These two options are better for creating digital annual reports.

We created our Annual Letter with a local web designer. It turned out great but it's challenging  and expensive to work through a contractor.  I'm finding this thread interesting for next year. Could we do something like this with one of those options?
