Nonprofits and Data

last person joined: 4 days ago

This group is for those interested in learning and sharing about all things data-related for nonprofits. The Nonprofits and Data group is for people using data to serve a mission, either directly or by improving nonprofits and the nonprofit sector. That includes everything from collecting data and managing databases to analytics, data visualization and data mining. Here are some examples of topics we discuss: using data to improve organizational effectiveness, measuring impact, using data for storytelling, tools for data management and analysis, figuring out the “right” data to collect, and learning skills to help us use data better.

Here's your chance to support your favorite proposals for educational sessions at the 2020 Nonprofit Technology Conference (#20NTC): Give your input on 20NTC sessions

You can give your input any time between now and August 30th.  Even if you're not sure yet whether or not you'll be able to attend NTC in Baltimore next March, remember that the session slides and collaborative notes are shared and public, so consider supporting the sessions you'd most like to see the slides/notes/resources for :)

There were 608 proposals received this year, which is a lot to read through.

So help us all out and share your favorites in reply to this thread!

Please feel to share your own proposals (data-related or not, we've got some great expertise in this group!), and of course, any that you are simply excited about and think would be really valuable for the Nonprofits and Data community.

My colleague and I at STARS Air Ambulance proposed 4 talks between us, although only one is data-related:
Donor Surveys: Your Untapped Data Goldmine

The others that her or I proposed this year include:
Everything I know about non-profit storytelling I learned from D&D
Ultimate Fighting Championship: Fundraising Appeals vs Brand
Uneasy lies the head: Leadership in tough situations

And since Janice did not promote her talks, I'm going to do it for her:
    Draw a Map to Clarity
Starting in the Middle: Knowledge Management For Change

I love how many of these I had already favorited before checking the thread. Well done!

I have two proposals up this year - neither one is Data-specific, but you may find them interesting:

Mission Control: How to Effectively Manage Collaborative, Multi-Stakeholder Digital Projects This one is a "propose the session you want to see in the world" moment for me - I have some ideas to share but I'm equally motivated by hoping to learn from my co-presenters and session participants

Sketchnotes: Tools and Tips for improving visual communications if selected, this will be the third year for this session, and second time as a sprint. I think the 30-minute format last year was ideal for it!

I've been having fun looking through these proposals; there's some great stuff this year! I have a couple of data-specific proposals:

AI for good: a machine learning for programming case study

Dashboards for impact reporting and storytelling: A case study

I also have a technology survey proposal that you might find interesting: The State of the Nonprofit Web
