Nonprofits and Data

This group is for those interested in learning and sharing about all things data-related for nonprofits. The Nonprofits and Data group is for people using data to serve a mission, either directly or by improving nonprofits and the nonprofit sector. That includes everything from collecting data and managing databases to analytics, data visualization and data mining. Here are some examples of topics we discuss: using data to improve organizational effectiveness, measuring impact, using data for storytelling, tools for data management and analysis, figuring out the “right” data to collect, and learning skills to help us use data better.

To those who made it to the Data Connect Session at 18NTC last week, thank you! We enjoyed meeting you in real life and it was fun to have the chance to connect (pun sort of intended).

If you missed it or if you would like to relive the session, take a look at the collaborative notes.  You can see photos of the attendees, the notes from the discussion, and even some sketch notes!

Some of the things we talked about were the new exciting things we learned about at 18NTC (bots and automation, training, GDPR), challenges we face (user adoption, data cleanliness, shifting taxonomies), and success stories (change management, data validation rules, data maintenance calendars). Check out the notes for all of the action.

For those of you who were at 18NTC, what were some things you learned that will help you use or manage data better at your organizations?  Help your peers navigate the full list of 18NTC collaborative notes and recommend some data-related session notes they should check out!

Thanks for posting the notes. I had to skip out early to catch my airport shuttle. Definitely wishing I'd stayed an extra night. The discussion session groups were some of the best conference sessions.
