Attendees of Color

I'm super excited that NTEN has put together spaces for attendees of color this year! While I've had more hopeful conversations about race in the nonprofit sector, I know there's still a lot of work to be done. I'd love to talk to other attendees of color about their experiences in the sector, and especially how one keeps the momentum going when there are structural forces at play against you (be it larger institutional structures, policies, or even your peers' biases).

I'm curious if anyone else is planning on attending the affinity group space on Day 1, and/or any of the Birds of the Feather? I'll be leading the Thursday Birds of a Feather table, so please come by and say hi! :) And if you want to connect before the conference, I'd love to do so.

    Hi Aki,
I'll most likely check out the affinity space. However, I'm "piggy backing" on the post to share some Portland POC spaces/places around Portland:

Deadstock Coffee (sneaker head coffee shop) http://www.deadstockcoffee.com/
    Ori Art Gallery https://www.oriartgallery.com/
Milagro Theatre (Latinx arts and culture) https://milagro.org/
YGB Portland (music events, fun stuff) https://www.facebook.com/YGBPortland/
PDX POC owned food directory http://www.racistsandwich.com/pocdirectory
I Love Black Food (Black owned eateries) https://iloveblackfood.com/pdx-directory/
Mercado PDX (Latinx food/cultura hub) https://www.portlandmercado.org/

There's more but I have to get back to work.

    Peace,

    Aki,

    Thanks for posting this.

I've just started looking at the agenda and planning the week so I'd love more info about the affinity group space.

I've been in the non-profit sector for only a short time but coming from the government/public sector has been a pretty big culture change. There are so many things I'd love to talk to other POC about including representation in the tech and non-profit sector(s) as well as our representation in urban vs. rural communities. I believe that we have much to teach and learn from each other and our varied experiences.

Be well and see you on day 1!

    Hi Aki!
I'm planning to swing by the BoF table (not yet sure about the affinity spaces). Thanks so much for volunteering to hold space, and for starting the conversation!

Thanks for organizing this, Aki! I'll be touching on creating change around equity impact during my pre-conference keynote, but unfortunately I have meetings during the Affinity Group and Birds of the Feather events. I hope there's another opportunity for all of us to connect at the conference!
