We've finally upgraded from using our donor management system as our means of email to using an actual e-mail marketing program, hooray! We're thinking about adding a welcome series/drip campaign. I'm curious if anyone here currently utilizes one. How many emails do you send? What kind of content do you include? Do you feel it's valuable? I would also be interested in signing up for your e-news to receive the drip campaign so I have a few examples for my team.

So glad you brought this up as it's been on my to-do list for months! So I don't have an example to share, but I saved this link for when I'm ready to work on it. I'm also interested in signing up for others' to see examples of this in action.

Also curious what email marketing system you went with?

We've helped clients build these. They can certainly be helpful, and we find that they seem to work best in these two cases: either you're an org offering broad services and you want to introduce new folks to parts of the org and its activities that they don't know about, OR, you're an org that does a lot of digital communication as part of your mission, eg advocacy orgs.

We have a welcome series for folks who create an account on our website (linked in case you want to sign up for it).

A lot of the folks who visit our website come looking for information about public lands, and may not be aware of advocacy, stewardship or other program work we do. A lot of folks don't even know we're a nonprofit organization. So, our welcome series is designed to a) say hello to new folks and b) begin to introduce all the resources and mission and impact work that we do.

Right now, we send 3 emails in the series over about a month (with a few conditional branches built around other engagements). I had a really tough time finding any information about nonprofit benchmarks for these kinds of emails, so we've just had to slowly benchmark our own work on them as we've evolved the email content.

Look forward to seeing if you turn up more research or ideas. Or get your feedback if you do sign up for ours. Happy to chat welcome series anytime.

This email nurture series by Hubspot might be worth checking out, especially how it uses the ask method as a strategy for your campaign: https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/email-nurturing-strategy-engagement-1000
