1.  Community book club - Luvvie Ajayi

Posted 29 days ago
Let's read 18NTC keynote presenter Luvvie Ajayi's book together before the conference!

I'm looking for at least two NTENers who can work with me to facilitate the process and lead book discussions in our online community (though in the Discuss forum so more folks can participate). All are welcome and encouraged to join in, however let's center our discussions around the voices of people of color by inviting them to facilitate and lead us. Are you interested in this volunteer opportunity? Let me know if you'd like to get involved! Feel free to reply here or contact me directly.

For more info:

Check out the pilot September 2017 book club with The Nonprofit Healthy Nonprofit: https://community.nten.org/search?s=tags%3A%22Book%20Club%22&executesearch=true. Two volunteer facilitators shared the work. They divided the reading into 4 weeks. Each volunteer took ownership of 2 of the 4 weeks. They both helped lead a live discussion at the end of the event.

I don't yet have Luvvie's book in my hot little hands (actually I'll probably listen to it--it received an Audie award!) but it looks like it's only ~240 pages and is divided up into 4 parts. I'll want our volunteer facilitators to help me solidify a schedule but below is what I tentatively propose.
Tentative schedule:
  • February 12 - Facilitators meet with NTEN CM (moi) and get to know each other; Facilitators and NTEN CM start to get online community excited
  • February 19 - NTEN CM posts an nten.org blog to announce schedule; Community has time to get book
  • February 26 - Community has time to get book
  • March 5 - Part I - Asynchronous forum discussion
  • March 12 - Part II - Asynchronous forum discussion
  • March 19 - Part III - Asynchronous forum discussion
  • March 26 - Part IV - Asynchronous forum discussion
  • April 2 - Wrap-up - Synchronous video discussion
  • April 9 - Bonus - Synchronous meetup/discussion at the 18NTC (for those who can make it)

Oh, definitely want to participate! Between work and life-stuff, I can't take on another responsibility right now to facilitate, but I definitely want to be part of the discussion!

Hi all,

I haven't met with the facilitator team yet, but wanted to let you know that we'll likely start discussing Part I of the book during the week of March 5. Get those library holds ready!

More info to come soon.

I'm hoping I'm not a day late and a dollar short on this one! How do I get to participate in the book club? I ordered the audio version and love the idea of discussion with such an awesome group as the NTEN women.
Thanks!

Not too late at all, Grace! I'm working on finalizing the discussion schedule now. Right now folks can prep by acquiring the book. (I'm going to do audio too!)
